Caption it!

I was shocked when I browsed the artwork lining the hallway outside Ian's kindergarten classroom. Some of the faces these kids had drawn, in my opinion, were elaborate: eyes had eyeballs inside and eyelashes, too. People weren't just sticks and some even had clothing!

Well.

Ian's people drawings may be a bit primitive compared to some in his class. But this kid's drawings are OOZING with substance, action, personality, and come with elaborate technical explanations. There is always something HAPPENING in his artwork, and you can bet it's a whopping story.

So tell me, what do you think was his story in this picture? And yes, there is a correct answer.

Between you and me, I'll be a little sad when those deliriously happy faces with hollowed out eyeballs disappear someday from his art.

Artist?

It's exciting to see your child grow and develop and watch his strengths come to light.
Nathan always loves it when Ian draws because Nathan is a designer/Creative Director and it means Ian has some of daddy's gifts.
What do you think?

Pretty great for a four year old?

Today we'll be battling sweet Lill's nasty cold. Bless her heart.
And tonight . . . Book club!! Since it's at my house this month, think I'll force them to pose for a group photo. :)

Motivation

Motivation is choosing a superhero sticker every time you write your name.

And now, a conversation in the van on the way home from the mall (sidenote: where the kids rode up the "excavator" (Ian) and down the "alligator" (Lilly):

Out of the blue, riding along . . .

Lilly: Daddy old.
Silence.
Lilly: Daddy old.
Ian: No, Lilly, daddy's not old!
Pause.
Ian: Well, daddy's a little bit old.
Lilly: DADDY OOLLLLLDDDD!!!

Bless Nathan's heart. He never said a word.
